SunAnza is Anza Electric Cooperative's first solar array and investment in renewable energy.
The financial analysis of SunAnza has shown a very good rate of return over the expected life of the system. This is a project that AEC engaged in cooperatively with our power supplier, Arizona Electric Power Cooperative (AEPCO).
AEC purchased the lot next door to our office, and in the fall of 2017 completed the first phase adding 2MW of power to our existing power supply.
The addition of another 1.4MW of power and a battery energy storage system was completed in 2020.
The investment in the SunAnza solar array has provided a reduction in cost of imported power, helped us meet peak demand during summer months and allows us to continue the process of meeting the state of California's renewable energy goals. The battery storage system also provides a limited amount of energy to be utilized in the event of power outages.
